Automator is an application developed by Apple Inc. For macOS that implements point-and-click (or drag and drop) creation of workflows for automating repetitive tasks into batches for quicker alteration, thus saving time and effort over human intervention to manually change each file separately. MacOS Catalina includes new features to help everyone get the most out of Mac. Voice Control lets users who can’t use traditional input devices control Mac, iPad, and iPhone entirely with their voice. New tools for users with low vision allow you to zoom in on a paragraph of text or the entire screen. Add the Start Screensaver action (in the Utilities group of actions) to the Service by dragging it to the right. Save the Service (Automator does not ask you where to save it, just to name it). Next, open System Preferences and select the Keyboard preference pane. Select the Keyboard Shortcuts tab at the top, then the Services group on the left. May 07, 2017 The Automator is a tool included with OS X which allows you to build custom workflows to perform both simple and complex tasks, such as renaming files in.
About Mac Scripting
Scripting allows you to automate complex, repetitive, and time-consuming tasks by writing scripts that interact with apps, processes, and the operating system. A script consists of a series of statements, each of which performs a specific operation. These statements work together to automate tasks. Through scripting, you can create powerful workflow solutions that enhance productivity, reduce errors, save time, and save money.
There are many different scripting languages. On the Mac, the primary ones used for automation are AppleScript and JavaScript.
Note
OS X also includes Automator, an app for building workflows that run prebuilt, configurable actions to perform tasks in apps and throughout the operating system. Macos mojave for windows 10 vmware. Automator doesn’t require you to write any code, but can be extended through scripting. Because Automator uses preconceived actions and operates in a linear manner, it’s more limited in functionality than scripting. Automator is great for performing simple tasks involving a small number of sequential steps or apps. Scripting is a better choice for performing advanced, branching, or complex tasks.
Python and Perl are other examples of scripting languages.
AppleScript
AppleScript is a mature scripting language developed by Apple. It’s relatively easy to learn in relation to other scripting and programming languages, has been around since System 7.1, and has been widely adopted in both enterprise and personal workflows. While the AppleScript scripting language uses an English-like terminology which may appear simple, it is a rich, object-oriented language, capable of performing complicated programming tasks.

JavaScript
JavaScript is a popular cross-platform scripting language. Historically, it’s been most commonly used to implement features on websites and in web-based apps that are accessed through browsers. However, some apps implement JavaScript-based scripting models for the purpose of automation. In OS X 10.10, JavaScript became a peer to AppleScript in OS X. There are many third-party websites and books that document the JavaScript language.
For fundamentals on JavaScript as a scripting language for automation in OS X, see JavaScript for Automation Release Notes. For information about the JavaScript language, see Mozilla’s official JavaScript documentation.

Hi all,
Does anybody know how to adjust the below to work with Outlook for Mac (16.6.2 on Sierra)?
Nov 15, 2009 4:04 PMRe: Automator automatic email attachment service. (Snow Leopard +)in response to Mark Gaipo
I recently muddled my way through this, and just worked out all the kinks.
My goal was to create a 1-click workflow where I could right click a file (or files) and send them to a predetermined email address without having to do another step. It also puts the file name(s) as the subject line of the email. (with commas! 🙂
Here's how it goes: (This is for Snow Leopard+)
In Automator, New> SERVICE
1) Top Line 'Service Receives selected *FILES OR FOLDERS* in FINDER.APP >
2) add 'Set Value of Variable' name the variable FILES > 3) add 'Run AppleScript' (Creates subject name, quoted at bottom for legibility) 4) add 'Set Value of Variable' name the variable SUBJECT 5) add 'New Mail Message' (enter recipient for this service, and drag the variable 'SUBJECT' into the subject line 6) add 'Get Value of Variable' (choose variable FILES) 7) add 'Add Attachments to Front Message' 8) add 'Send Outgoing Messages' 9) Save. Give it a service name (Send to John) etc.
That's it!! (don't forget the script below for step 3 to generate the subject line)
If you want to just have one service, and enter the email address & send each time, basically replicating the existing Finder>Services>New Email with Attachment, then just do step 1, add 'New Mail Message' and then add 'Add Attachments to Front' (Then you could right click the files)
here's the script for step 3.
on run {input}
set file_string to {}
set file_name to {} set file_count to 1 tell application 'Finder'
repeat with current_file in input
set file_name to name of current_file
if file_count > 1 then set file_string to file_string & ',' end if set file_string to file_string & file_name set file_count to file_count + 1
end repeat
end tell return file_string end run
Many thanks
